Foods and Nutrition is a one semester course in which students will learn how nutrition impacts their daily life. This course will cover topics of nutrition and health, food safety and sanitation as well as food preparation. Students will be exposed to hands on learning thorough weekly cooking labs. Students will also learn about the importance of the food guide pyramid, daily exercise, how to read a food label, eating disorders and fad diets.
Grade Level 9 - 12
This is a one semester course which is a continuation of Beginning Foods. Students must pass Foods and Nutrition with a C or better to enroll. Students will learn how culture impacts our eating styles as well as eating habits. Students will further discuss the role of diet and diseases and further learn the importance of healthy eating at all stages of life. This is also a hands on class in which students are given the opportunity to create meals from different countries as well as regional cuisine from the United States.
Students in both Foods and Nutrition and International Foods will be exposed to the various Careers in Food Service and Hospitality. Guest Speakers from Culinary School’s as well as Professional Chefs will demonstrate new cooking techniques and introduce students to the all the different career paths available to them.
